Guantanamo.- “Feminist Grassroots Communication” is the title of a workshop currently taking place at the Martin Luther King Memorial Center in the Marianao municipality of Havana.

The workshop brings together grassroots educators from Guantánamo and other provinces across the country. It provides a space to analyze the consequences of gender-based violence and explore strategies for addressing it through language and communication materials.

The gathering seeks to expose the discriminatory ideas and power imbalances that sustain sexist violence in the Cuban context.

Participants agree that feminist grassroots communication is an essential tool for transforming the mindsets that legitimize violence.

They are also examining how the effects of gender-based violence are linked to emotional and economic dependence—factors that often prevent victims from breaking the cycle of abuse.

Understood as both a political and educational practice, feminist communication offers a way to challenge the structures that perpetuate violence and to work collectively toward building a culture of peace.
