Guantanamo.- In recognition of her outstanding professional career and her contributions to Cuban higher education, PhD. Idania Núñez La O, with a long history of service and legacy to the institution, received today the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Historical Sciences from the University of Guantánamo, an award given for the first time by the center

After receiving the title, the PhD. Idania Núñez La O expressed her special thanks for such a distinguished recognition and she reviewed her history of pedagogical work at the UG and she said that she received the award on behalf of the many people who fought for the development of higher education in the province.

“Today we have a university, accredited and strong. We cannot lose what we have achieved,” she finally said.

Her achievements include:

José Tey Medal from the Council of State in 2004

Outstanding member of the State and the Government of the Ministry of Higher Education

Fernando Portuondo Distinction from the Cuban Historians Association

Recognition as an honorary member and founder of the Che Guevara Chair at the University of Guantánamo

Recognition for her contribution to the formation of the Doctorate in Education Sciences program at the UG in 2023.

Commemorative Medal for the 250th anniversary of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in 2007.

Recognition as a distinguished visitor from the César Vallejo University in Lima, Peru, in 2009.

For her part, the rector of the University of Guantánamo, Dr.C. Osiris Aranda Creagh referred to the honoree as one of the most admired and respected professors in her specialty, of exceptional values, the first personality to join the historical list of those who honor the center with this recognition
