Guantanamo.- Guantánamo’s cultural institutions are gearing up to launch their 2026 summer program, thoughtfully designed to mirror the country’s current economic realities.
This year’s season holds special significance, as it commemorates three major milestones: the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s birth, the 40th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), and the 65th anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
The festivities will officially commence on June 27 in Baracoa, the municipality chosen to host the provincial opening event. Other provinces will follow suit with their inaugural celebrations on June 28.
A highlight of the program will be the July 26 celebrations, with the municipal capital of Maisí honored as the provincial host this year.
Among the standout events is the Changüinazo Festival, set to take place from June 26 to 28.
This festival serves as a vibrant homage to the traditional Changüí Festival, which unfortunately cannot be held this year due to the country’s financial constraints.
The Changüinazo Festival promises to keep alive the spirit and cultural richness of Changüí music and heritage, offering residents and visitors a meaningful and festive experience despite the challenging economic climate.
