Guantanamo.- The workers of the Basic Business Unit, La Avellaneda Restaurant, received the National Vanguard Collective Flag, the highest distinction awarded by the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC), for their outstanding production and economic results.

Lilianne Jefferson Calzado, general secretary of the Trade Workers’ Union, acknowledged the excellent work the group has maintained for several years in providing services despite severe restrictions on acquiring products, supplies, and other essential resources needed to serve the public with quality and efficiency, according to Ángel Moreno Columbie, the restaurant’s director.

Constant self-management, production integration, control over its economic structure, a strong sense of belonging, and the fulfillment of numerous union and financial responsibilities are other achievements that justify this group that has been awarded for the fifth consecutive time, the highest award conferred by the CTC, the only one in the commercial and gastronomic sector in the province to receive it.

The La Avellaneda restaurant is one of the 27 UEBs (Basic Business Units) that comprise the Lodging and Gastronomy Company in Guantánamo Province. Rafael Lores Cruz, General Director, highlights the value of this collective as a prime example of what can be accomplished despite the economic limitations facing the nation.

The La Avellaneda unit was inaugurated in 1985 to coincide with Guantánamo’s first time hosting the central activities in the country for July 26th, National Rebellion Day.
