Guantánamo.- The operational status of the province’s water supply system, the current epidemiological situation, and the repair and replacement of damaged electrical transformers were among the key issues discussed during Guantánamo’s Provincial Essential Services Coordination Meeting held on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
The meeting was chaired by the province’s senior political and government authorities.
Edilson Delgado Guzmán, Guantánamo’s Delegate of Hydraulic Resources, reported that damaged technical equipment belonging to the provincial water utility is currently being evaluated and repaired at specialized workshops in San José, Mayabeque Province.
He also announced that sewer unclogging operations are scheduled in the municipalities of Imías and Guantánamo, along with maintenance and cleaning work on the Sabanalamar Canal in San Antonio del Sur.
Meanwhile, Joaquín Díaz Cantillo, Director of the Guantánamo Electric Company, informed participants that 17 electrical transformers remain out of service across the province, with the highest concentration of damage reported in Baracoa, Maisí, and the provincial capital.
He added that eight new transformers will be delivered from Manzanillo, Granma Province, for installation in the communities most affected by these outages.
Regarding public health, Dr. Arianna Benech Jiménez, Director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, stated that epidemiological surveillance continues throughout all municipalities.
According to the latest weekly assessment, the municipality of Imías reported the highest level of epidemiological activity, while El Salvador and San Antonio del Sur recorded lower levels of incidence.
Officials also confirmed that sufficient flour supplies are available to ensure bread production for the day. Additionally, provincial authorities emphasized the importance of monitoring commercial distribution, cash deposits into local banking branches, and the collection of outstanding fines by municipal governments.
