Guantanamo.- The Provincial Library «Regino Eladio Botí», of this eastern city, awarded the winners of the National Contest «Leer a Martí», an annual competition to promote the habit of reading and writing about the life and work the Cuban National Hero.

In this 25th edition, Guantánamo Province stands out at the national level with four winning works in the genres of stories, poetry and epistle, confirming its prestige in this contest in which has been awarded for more than five years.

The pioneers Helen Vanesa, from the municipality of Imías, Liz Amanda Leyva Pelier, from Baracoa, as well as Pablo Naranjo, from Caimanera and from the capital municipality Leidis Elías, were the winners, who will receive their corresponding awards on April 16 at the José Martí National Library.

Yorkis Rodríguez Miclén, Provincial Methodologist for school libraries at the Provincial Education Directorate, explained that fifteen works by Guantánamo students from primary, basic secondary, technical-professional, pre-university and special education were received and evaluated  at the national level event among more than a hundred evaluated works from all over the country.

This time, excellent works of students were presented in the categories of short story, epistle and article, which went through the school competition, the municipal competition and at the provincial level.

The National Contest «Leer a Martí» is held every year by the José Martí National Library, together with a group of institutions and organizations to promote a special approach by students to the life and work of the most universal of Cubans.
