Guantanamo.- Ensuring public passenger transportation is a priority in Guantanamo despite the difficulties in the vehicle fleet, lack of parts, tires and fuel limitations, said the Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, during the balance of the work of the year 2024 carried out by the provincial direction of the branch in the territory.

“He also emphasized that we recognize the efforts of the entity to guarantee the transportation of the basic basket, a high priority activity at the country level”

During the annual meeting, Henry Rodríguez Terrero, provincial director of transportation, outlined during the reading of the report the achievements and difficulties of the sector, what is related to the transportation of cargo and passengers in addition to the work projection for the current year in order to achieve better results.

He pointed out that the passenger plan was at 67.9 percent standard, which means the transportation of more than 26 million passengers, a figure that decreases about 12 million less in relation to the same period of the year 2023.

He also said that the launch of a university train to Santiago de Cuba is an achievement in the stage, with 134 trips and the transfer of a total of 60 thousand passengers, of which 13 thousand 669 are students.

The MEDIBUS service from eight municipalities to the provincial capital was also increased (from 16 weekly trips to twenty-eight) while the MEDIBUS service for infertility consultations in the province of Holguín operates on a biweekly basis, free of charge for the patient or companions through the UEB Ómnibus Nacionales with rented vehicles.

During the annual meeting of the transportation sector in Guantanamo, workers of the entity were recognized and they were urged to look for alternatives based on agreements between companies that allow improving the service directed to the population while fulfilling the social mandate.
