Guantanamo.- The University of Guantanamo (UG), the House of Science and Progress of this eastern province, is consolidating its international academic cooperation, with the signing of more than 100 agreements with several universities in other nations, including Mexico, Russia, Spain, China, and India.
The signed agreements facilitate two-way academic exchanges, scholarships, internships, and other professional development opportunities for students and faculty, according to MSC. Idalmis Ortiz Verdecía, the Director of International Relations.
These agreements come at the right time of active collaboration with Russia, through master’s scholarships at the Russian State Social University and doctoral programs at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
In addition, doctoral scholarships provided by the Mexican government are being used, as well as the agreement with the University of Valladolid in Spain, which contributes to the academic training of the faculty, explains MSC. Ortiz Verdecía.
Furthermore, courses for executives in China and internships in Russia for undergraduate students are offered. Hence, the new scholarships in India complete the range of international opportunities.
Ortiz Verdecía highlighted that, in the last academic year, the university welcomed three doctoral students from Mexico, Brazil, and Russia to pursue a master’s degree in Sociology and Agronomy, who reported a positive experience.
The Director of International Relations highlighted the key agreement with the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), in place since 2009, which promotes cocoa research and regional development.
The University of Guantánamo actively participates in international projects related to agricultural production, technology, education, and sustainable development, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and contributing to government cooperation by sending professionals to Venezuela, Mozambique, and Equatorial Guinea. Each year, between 30 and 40 collaborators serve in the Republic of Angola.
