Guantánamo.- The University of Guantánamo (UG, in Spanish abbreviation) reaches its 45th anniversary with a higher level of international visibility from the collaboration in some 20 scientific projects in universities such as Mexico, Brazil, Hungary, Venezuela and Cuba.

The Doctor in Agricultural Science, Yurelkys Fernández Maura, who is the Head of the International Project Management group, highlighted that these investigations are aimed at better management and production of natural resources, with emphasis on strategies for adaptation to climate change, as well as the resilience of agroecosystems and peasant innovation in agricultural activity.

The PhD. Fernandez Maura also stated that the UG, known as the House of Science and Progress, in Guantánamo marks the new anniversary, on January 23, with a greater exchange of professors and students from other universities in Latin America and with the pride of being a university certified by the National Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, after an institutional evaluation process.

These advances allowed strengthening university’s infrastructure, facilitating the acquisition of means and equipment that enhance research and academic development. The institution provides its students and professors with a more enriching and collaborative environment, which is reflected in the quality of the education in the UG, said the doctor.

Yurelkys Fernández Maura, head of the Project Management group, also said that international cooperation at the University of Guantánamo also extends to countries such as Belgium and France with the signing of agreements that facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences with the pedagogues and scientists of these higher education centers.
