Yinet Marzo Manuel, director of Development and Control in the WREE explained that they have registered some 640 polluting sources throughout the province; among those with the highest incidences are the fruit and vegetable processing plants in the mountains and units for raising pigs, on which they  maintain systematic control, which allows maintaining the water quality index within requirements.

Guantanamo is one of the territories with the greatest water potential in the country, however it has very low availability rates, a situation that requires adopting more efficient management models to guarantee water and sanitation for all, the specialist emphasized.

Marzo Manuel highlighted among the ways for comprehensive water management, raising the availability index of usable water resources, getting to know with certainty the dimensions of the resource that is lost due to large leaks, raising water efficiency in all sectors, especially the agriculture with technological innovation and raise awareness of savings with measures such as implementing the use of flowmeter devices and fees that encourage avoiding waste.
