Guantanamo. The fourth edition of the provincial scientific symposium “Heritage, Identity, and Cultural Processes,” sponsored by the Sócrates Villalón Center for Cultural Professional Development as part of the Cuban Culture Celebration, opened in Guantánamo with a panel titled “50 Years: Many Voices and a Single Culture.”
The panel was led by Doctors of Science Migdalia Tamayo Téllez and Noralis Palomo Díaz and moderated by researcher José Cuenca Sosa. Held at the Artex Café Cantante América and dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the founding of Cuba’s Ministry of Culture, the session examined the institution’s establishment and its importance to the country.
Tamayo Téllez and Palomo Díaz also highlighted the humanist legacy of intellectual Armando Hart Dávalos, who headed the ministry after its creation.
Researchers, historians, artists, and specialists and staff members from the centers and councils that make up Guantánamo’s cultural institutional system attended the event. Before the main proceedings, the Danza Libre Company performed, while students from the Professional School of Music—specializing in the tres and laúd—presented musical works by Adriana Amador.
As part of the symposium, which is being held within the framework of the local Cuban Culture Celebration, an audiovisual presentation commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Guantánamo Center for Cultural Professional Development is scheduled for Tuesday at Café Cantante América. The venue will also host presentations of the academic research and studies prepared for the occasion.
