Guantanamo.-Job training for young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Guantanamo Province, is evolving toward models that combine study and practice in specialized workshops. It is recognized that success depends not only on individual effort but also on the context in which the student develops.

The municipality of Guantánamo has nine multipurpose areas where students learn shoemaking, sewing, confectionery, and customer service, among other trades. Some also combine their training with practical experience in self-employed businesses or small and medium-sized enterprises.

Job training for students with intellectual disabilities is essential for their future integration into social and family life. Skills training provides an opportunity to experience connections between theory and practice, in which young people with I/DD can learn traditional trades and household chores skills.
