Guantanamo.- The Cuban long-distance runner Anisleidis Ochoa won the 10 km race in Cartago, Costa Rica, setting a national record and for the Clásica Candelaria Internacional 2025.
On a 10 kilometer circuit certified by the World Athletics, Cuban Ochoa clocked 33:48 minutes and had a successful debut in this type of event.
The Cuban athlete, who is native of Guantanamo Province, beat the Costa Rican Diana Bogantes (34:24) and Puerto Rican Paola Alejandra Figueroa (34:55).
Meanwhile, at the Pan American Stadium in Havana, the hammer thrower Ronald Mencía threw 76.91m, in the first attempt of Cuban athletics.
Mencía improved his personal best by almost 30 centimeters, achieved in 2023.
It was also a good day for the young triple jumper Gian Carlos Baxter, who achieved the personal best (16.38).
In the 100-meter hurdles, Greysi Robles dominated clocking 13.02 seconds, and Silinda Morales brought the discus to 61.63.
As for the incursions in the European indoor meetings, the Cubans did not stand out.
