Guantánamo, June 3, 2026 – At the proposal of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Guantánamo, chaired by Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party, the provincial Government Council has decided to grant the municipality of Maisí the honor of hosting the activities commemorating July 26th.
Located at the easternmost end of Cuba, Maisí has been recognized for its comprehensive achievements across key economic and social indicators during the current period.
The municipality of Maisí notably excels in net sales, revenue contributions, and exports, all of which substantially aid the country’s efforts to generate foreign currency. Furthermore, Maisí stands out in the production of essential goods, crime prevention, and advances in energy transition aimed at reducing hydrocarbon consumption and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
On the social front, Maisí maintains an infant mortality rate below zero—a remarkable accomplishment amid a challenging context that strains the sustainability of the Maternal and Child Health Program.
Additionally, the municipalities of Yateras and Caimanera received recognition for their significant contributions to food production, energy transition, and other impactful socioeconomic indicators.
The municipality of Guantánamo was also specially acknowledged for its active mobilization in political events that reaffirm commitment to the Revolution and denounce imperialist hostilities. Its progress in strategic sectors such as agriculture, energy, housing, and the ongoing sustainability of the weekly Agro-industrial Fair was likewise highlighted.
The First Secretary of the PCC in Guantánamo emphasized that the greatest credit belongs to the people themselves, whose resilience and steadfast commitment have proven unwavering in a year marked by complexities testing confidence in the construction of socialism.
This recognition, under the framework of July 26th, reaffirms the determination of the people of Guantánamo to continue advancing the economic and social development of their territory in alignment with the principles of the Revolution.
