Guantánamo.- The working group of the Department of Transportation of the Municipal Administration Council carried out a survey of the 50 existing mountain roads in Baracoa, all affected by Hurricane Oscar and the heavy rains of the last few days.

Elizabeth Terrero Borges, director of the aforementioned department, reported that five roads in deplorable state will be repaired that prevents the entry of material resources for the recovery and products for the family basket and for other basic services.

She explained that as part of the refurbishment program, nine kilometers of the road to Mandinga will be repaired, the largest productive hub in the Baracoa Municipality and one of the most devastated area by the recent hydrometeorological phenomenon, where recovery has been slow due to the difficult access to the place.

Four point four kilometers of the road to San Germán will also be repaired, 12 from Mabujabo to Santa Rosa, 15 from Cabacú to Majayara and three from Barrancadero to Veguita Amarilla.

The accessibility to schools, medical offices and other structures of socioeconomic interest will be restored with the executions planned in the selected sections.

The board considered that to achieve this objective it is essential the recovery of the road brigades, in charge of maintaining the vitality of the mountain roads. It highlighted the impact on the improvement of the living conditions of the locals, who were invited to participate in these actions.

The Baracoa rural roads board covers an area of ​​208 kilometers, all in poor condition, so other repairs are planned for 2025 with the intervention of the companies Agroforestal Simalco and Agroforestal y Coco, whose economic orders in intricate agricultural and timber areas make their way through these mountain roads.
