The external evaluation of the University of Guantanamo concluded with the presentation of a report that recognized the sustained advances in vocational training, which have allowed an increase in admissions to pedagogical careers, with 76 more places as compared to 2018, a strength highlighted by the evaluators of the National Accreditation Board (JAN) of the Ministry of Higher Education, upon praising the contribution to the educational sector demands.
The close university-business-society-government link was also corroborated in exchanges with students and directors of centers such as Muebles Imperio, the Alto Serra Coffee Processing Company, and the Baracoa agroforestry companies, among other entities.
Evaluators also described the science, technology and innovation system as solid and relevant, with the implementation of 40 projects, which mainly have to do with the agroforestry, food and tourism industries, which have allowed the introduction of 136 results, mainly related to technologies for improving the production of coffee, coconut, cocoa and small livestock.
The report recognized other problems such as the low levels of interaction on the Moodle virtual platform, which supports teaching with materials from the subjects by career, another issue that will merit internal examination to continue improving the quality of the processes of the House of Science and Progress.
The final result of the evaluation, of which the UG aspires to achieve the Certified category, must be reported in 2024, when the JAN ´s plenary session takes place and determines taking into account what is stated in the evaluators’ report.
