Guantanamo.- Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, Chief of the General Staff of Civil Defense, during a visit to eastern Cuba, assessed Guantanamo Province’s preparedness to face exceptional situations and natural disaster as well as to carry out Exercise Meteoro 2026.

Accompanied by Carlos Raúl Martínez Turro, the province’s Vice Governor, Pardo Guerra learned about the progress of the recovery from the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa on October 29, 2025, with an emphasis on the restoration of productive entities and housing fund.

The Hero of the Republic of Cuba also reviewed the measures for confronting the drought; the state of the reservoirs in Guantánamo; and assessed the epidemiological situation  Preparedness, Readiness and Response Plan (SPRP) to tackle dengue and other Aedes-borne arboviruses.

The tour covered the municipalities of El Salvador, Caimanera, and Guantánamo, where Major General Pardo Guerra learned about the actions outlined in the family guide for protecting the population during extreme weather events, biological hazards, or other natural disasters.
