On a significant date of January 28th for Cubans that marks the birth of José Martí, nearly seven hundred young people in Guantanamo received their graduate degrees from the University of Medical Sciences, during the event held this Sunday in the plaza Pedro Agustín Pérez in the capital city.

In the ceremony presided over by the highest political and government authorities in the province, 610 graduates received the Doctor of Medicine diploma, including a young woman from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia; while others received their degrees as stomatologists, nurses and health technologists.

Dr. Yanet del Carmen Pérez Ferreiro, rector of the institution, highlighted that the celebrations of the forty-first graduation of the Carlos Juan Finlay detachment serve as a commitment to those who chose the noble profession of saving lives unconditionally.

During the ceremony, the members of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Vanguard Movement, the graduates with diploma of honor and the “Scientific Merit Award,” were recognized, as well as the best graduates by careers and the spheres of Teaching, Social Impact, Culture and Sports.

A significant moment at the graduation of the University of Medical Sciences this Sunday was the special recognition given to the young Doctor Roberto Solís Cobas, the most comprehensive graduate, who on behalf of his classmates thanked the professors for their dedication to his professional growth, as well as family and friends who supported him, while he kept alive the desire to improve himself and the commitment to save lives as a sacred duty.
