Disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Guantanamo-Baracoa Theater Crusade for the first time did not do its traditional tour through the mountains on this side of the country; however the performing arts of different parts of the world is shared in the cyberspace from January 28 to February 10.
In line with the complex epidemiological scenario that Guantanamo is going through due to the high incidence of COVID-19, the Provincial Book Center takes up initiative the Literature to the Order, a proposal that makes possible to request by telephone call a collection of books of local authors as well as Cuban and universal texts, to encourage reading from home in these pandemic times.
For the first time, the Guantanamo-Baracoa Theater Crusade will only be in a virtual form due to the complex epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19 in the territory; the thirty-first edition of the event will take place from January 28 to February 10 from digital platforms and the institutional profile on Facebook of the Provincial Council of Performing Arts.
As part of the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic in the Guantanamo Municipality, workers from the culture sector assume, among their new tasks in the current phase of limited autochthonous transmission in the territory, to support in the care of vulnerable groups, the courier services and the process of active health monitoring, in order to stop the increase of this dangerous disease.
On occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the main authorities of the territory, Rafael Pérez Fernández, First Secretary of the Party in the province and Governor Emilio Matos Mosqueda, inaugurated the Zona de Arte center in Guantanamo, a facility that belongs to the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods.
