The zone was recognized as a national model for its community-based work and its significant contribution to initiatives organized by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR).
The ceremony formed part of the celebrations marking the 66th anniversary of the CDR’s founding. The event honored CDR members and grassroots organizations from across the country for their outstanding contributions to the mass organization’s comprehensive work.
Men and women were presented with the “For the Defense of the Homeland and Neighborhood Unity” medal and the “September 28” distinction in recognition of their outstanding performance of their assigned duties.
Joining Díaz-Canel in presiding over the event were members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee: Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization; Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of the Federation of Cuban Women; and Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and National Coordinator of the CDR.
The CDR’s 66th anniversary will be celebrated on September 28. This year’s observances also honor the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the organization’s founder and driving force.
