Guantanamo.- More than 15 members from various unions were honored at the city’s House of Culture by the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC) in recognition of their dedication and sustained commitment to their respective sectors.
The Jesús Menéndez Medal was awarded to Josefina Hasel Hermins, a member of the health workers’ union and employee of the Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital. This honor acknowledges her exceptional professional achievements and her long-standing role as a grassroots union leader within the institution.
Hasel Hermins has devoted 27 years of service to the hospital’s sterilization unit, the department responsible for processing and ensuring the safety of all instruments used in patient care.
The awardee highlighted that receiving this distinction just days before the commemoration of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s birthday adds special significance to her dedication to the union.
During the ceremony, the “Labor Feat” Distinction (Distinción Hazaña Laboral) was presented to eight members of the agricultural, forestry, and tobacco workers’ union. Additionally, nine workers from the food, fishing, and agricultural sectors were recognized for 20 and 25 years of exemplary service in their workplaces.
Yadira Velázquez, a member of the CTC municipal bureau, congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue advancing the organization’s objectives, fulfilling development plans, increasing exportable goods, substituting imports, and fostering productive partnerships with emerging economic actors.
The union leader stressed that those leading this phase must remain at the forefront of ideological, production, and service-sector efforts. She urged them to continue setting an example through their reaffirmation, dedication, and enthusiasm.
