Guantánamo-. The file that will validate the accreditation of the Specialty of Pediatrics of the Pedro Agustín Perez Children’s Hospital in Guantánamo, is in the final phase, assured Dr. Lissette Dorsant Rodríguez, coordinator of the accreditation commission.

The specialist in I and II degrees in Pediatrics, specified to Venceremos that the process began in 2019 but, because of COVID-19 and changes in the accreditation methodology, it restarted last November with the visit of the National Accreditation Board (JAN) of the  Higher Education Ministry

For this reason, it was necessary to discard the first two years – a five-year period is valued -, update the data of those that are still valid and begin the process with the cycles that began in 2023 and 2024, based on the variables social impact, student, curriculum, faculty, infrastructure and labor scenario.

For social impact, for example, the relations of the specialty with other entities and their expression in society must be documented, including a recent strategy for specialist professors of cardiology, neurology, etc., to train their colleagues at the primary level.

Meanwhile, he added, the student variable requires all the documentation of  20 active residents in the three years of the specialty, the information of their training and thesis tutors, results in the teaching process and progress of their research, among other aspects.

In June, the self-evaluation must be sent to the JAN, which evaluates and defines how the accreditation process continues, “which will have an impact on the quality of services and the lives of our children and will be a recognition to the professors who founded and sustained the specialty for more than 40 years”, he emphasized.
