Guantanamo.- The educational sector in Guantánamo protected the basic teaching aids and technological resources as part of the action protocol activated in response to the threat of hydrometeorological events, in order to safeguard educational resources.
Raquel Laviste Villafruela, Provincial Director of Education, during a tour of schools and communities affected like Cecilia, verified firsthand the effectiveness of the implemented measures and the condition of the facilities following the heavy rains.
The highest representative of the educational sector in the territory emphasized that moving the resources to safe areas to prevent their deterioration or loss due to possible flooding is a fundamental measure to guarantee the continuity of the educational process once classes resume.
It’s an effort that links risk management with the quality of education, said Raquel Laviste Villafruela, to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains. The director noted that the Guantánamo education system currently has 17 institutions used as evacuation centers, where 294 people are being protected, at the time of writing this report.
