Guantanamo.- The recent inauguration of a desalination plant in San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo Province, marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of life for local residents amid challenging economic conditions.
This facility will provide a reliable source of drinking water for two schools and the surrounding community, demonstrating the commitment to improving essential services in the area.
Coinciding with the centennial celebration of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth, the plant was established with support from UNICEF, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Oscar.
The initiative aims to restore access to vital resources in one of the regions most impacted by the storm, showcasing international cooperation in addressing local needs.
Edilso Delgado Guzmán, representing the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, noted that the plant can process up to 5,000 liters of water per hour, utilizing advanced technologies such as reverse osmosis and filtration systems.
With an investment exceeding 26 million pesos, the facility will initially operate on photovoltaic energy before connecting to the National Electrical System, ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply for the community.
