Guantanamo.- In response to the need to improve energy efficiency and public services, the municipality of Niceto Pérez in Guantánamo has installed approximately 10 solar-panel systems, an initiative that is already improving residents’ well-being.

Healthcare institutions benefiting from this renewable energy source include the Maternity Home, the Grandparents’ Home and the Gilberto Isalgue González University Polyclinic. Other institutions, such as ETECSA, the Credit and Services Bank, the Physical Planning office, the funeral home and the municipal headquarters of the Communist Party, are also using these alternative technologies. Their implementation contributes to greater independence from the National Electric System.

According to specialists from the Basic Electrical Organization in Niceto Pérez, the education sector is also joining the electrification process through renewable energy sources.

With these systems now operating in healthcare, education and other service institutions, more than 16,000 residents of Niceto Pérez benefit from the efficient use of renewable energy sources. The initiative contributes strategically and sustainably to addressing the country’s current energy contingency.
