Guantanamo.- The importance of teaching both national and local history was highlighted on July 1, Cuban Historians’ Day, during a meeting of participants in the project Improving the Teaching of National and Local History in the Guantánamo Region.
At their regular session, historians and researchers reviewed the preliminary results of the project’s educational strategy, emphasizing the positive impact of teachers’ methodological training and students’ active participation in classroom activities.
Participants also identified the use of innovative teaching methods, model lessons, and educational visits to historical sites as key strengths of the initiative.
The project provides educators with a comprehensive set of teaching resources, including local history materials, selected readings, maps, and audiovisual content to support implementation of the strategy. These resources have helped make history lessons more engaging, accessible, and meaningful for students.
The pilot initiative currently involves more than 1,160 students from seven educational institutions in the municipality of Guantánamo, including the University of Guantánamo.
