Guantánamo – The University of Guantánamo (UG) received the , after an in-depth analysis by the National Accreditation Board (JAN), which took into account the comprehensive results of that higher education center, which is celebrating 45 years of foundation on January 23 of the coming year.
Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar, Vice Minister of Higher Education, highlighted that achieving this category leads to excellence as the next step, because a qualitative leap is evident in the UG in comparison with counterpart universities in the country.
This categorization system takes into account regional and international experience, the vice-president of the sector explained, and confirmed that Cuban higher education enjoys great prestige in the world. He specified that the Guantánamo Province stands out within the country’s higher educational system.
The National Accreditation Board evaluated the Guantanamo House of Science and Progress by verifying knowledge, the breadth of the master’s program, teaching results, the quality of the educational process, teaching preparation and university extension courses.
The experts also verified the quality in the training of comprehensive professionals, possessors of a high humanistic education and their profession, capable of mastering reality and transforming it, committed to the Homeland and Socialism, one of the main objectives of the University of Guantanamo.
The work of the University Student Federation was praised, as were the Extension projects and their presence in tasks of sociocultural impact, especially in the verification of internal control in the province and the insertion of 310 students in the University campuses, and students who work as teachers in primary, secondary and pre-university education.
