The blockade against Cuba imposed more than six decades ago by the government of the United States, affects programs for schoolchildren with special educational needs, as well as those with hearing and visually impaired children.
The main challenge of this kind of education is to rehabilitate infants with special educational needs so that they can be incorporated into society, but that is not possible without the help of technology, Yaima Salas Ruiz, director of the 14 de Junio Provincial School, told CMKS Radio Station.
She also assured that this hostile policy makes it difficult to acquire specific teaching aids for blind and deaf children, due to the negative impact of the blockade by limiting necessary materials.
“PERKINS mechanical Braille writing machines cannot be acquired by Cuba, as they are manufactured and marketed in the United States,” the Guantanamo teacher explained when referring to the consequences of the criminal US government measure against the Cuban people.
Yaima Salas Ruiz, director of the 14 de Junio provincial school, also said that there is a lack of high-grade glasses and crystals for myopic children and the necessary equipment for the rehabilitation of strabismus and amblyope.
