Guantanamo.- With the graduation of 1,983 young people in the 2024-2025 academic year, the University of Guantánamo (UG, in Spanish abbreviation) now has 60,400 professionals trained in various programs and study modalities to contribute to the economic and social spheres of the territories of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba.
It was recognized during the graduation ceremony of the so-called House of Science and Progress, which is distinguished by 260 students who received diplomas with honors and 75 other scientific merit awards. Nine graduates completed their degrees in just three years, based on curricular adaptations and their exceptional performance.
PhD. Osiris Aranda Creagh, Rector of the UG, highlighted the accreditation of several undergraduate programs, postgraduate courses, and the University of Guantánamo, as well as the high levels of efficiency and quality of the students, who were awarded in local and national competitions.
Aranda Creagh also encouraged the new graduates to continue their development in the next stages to contribute to the socioeconomic development of Guantánamo.
At this graduation, a moment of continuous applause was held in honor of the jurist, Assistant Professor, and Vice Rector of Education, Vladimir Naranjo Gómez, who passed away recently. He was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, which his daughter received at the ceremony.
During the graduation ceremony, recognitions were also presented to the best graduates in teaching, research work, university outreach, culture, sports, socially useful work, the best student assistant, and the most comprehensive students in the regular day course and in the meeting.
Ana Grabiela Lemes Crespo, the most comprehensive graduate of the 2024-2025 academic year, on behalf of all the graduates, expressed her gratitude to the professors and families who supported them along the way, and encouraged her colleagues to take advantage of the opportunities for professional growth.
Likewise, the University of Guantánamo recognized the support provided to students’ training during the academic year by the provincial Education and Sports Directorates, the Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA), Agriculture, and MININT delegations, the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC), the Provincial Government Council, and the Cuban Communist Party Committee.
With joy for the significant results and the challenges of perfecting the teaching process for future courses, the University of Guantánamo celebrated its graduation ceremony dedicated to its 45th anniversary and to the National Rebellion Day, which will be commemorated on July 26th.
