Guantánamo – Starting February 23, the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo will decentralize teaching activities for all programs to different regions, as part of the measures adopted in response to the genocidal US blockade against Cuba and the current policy of economic strangulation.
Dr. Yamilé Rodríguez Sotomayor, Rector of the University, announced that the teaching and learning process will be conducted in a blended learning format. In each municipality, students will be assigned to health institutions such as polyclinics, family doctor’s offices, maternity homes, senior centers, and nursing homes, where they will carry out the corresponding academic activities according to their program, academic year, and rotation.
She added that they are also being incorporated into the activities of the mother and child health program and epidemiological surveillance.
She also noted that the fifth and sixth years of medical school, the third, fourth, and fifth years of dentistry, the final year of the remaining degree programs, and the university college will remain unchanged. The second and third sessions of final exams for the first semester and the second session of undergraduate state exams will also be held.
She specified that postgraduate education will continue without changes, as long as circumstances allow, and emphasized that all academic and scientific events are postponed.
Rodríguez Sotomayor urged workers, students, and their families to stay informed through the institution’s official channels.
