Guantanamo – With the entry of nearly 4,800 new students in the careers of Medicine, Stomatology and Nursing Degree, among other specialties, the University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo shows during the current 2024-2025 academic year one of the higher-enrolment rates in recent years.

Dr. Yanet del Carmen Pérez Ferreiro, rector of the university, said that the school year is made up of more than 6 thousand students, including those from the Baracoa campus, which also trains specialties such as Imaging and Rehabilitation.

She added that one of the great challenges of the current academic year, in the midst of economic limitations, is to make available to future health professionals the necessary teaching materials and resources for their training, as well as furniture and audiovisual computer equipment.

She also pointed out that the purpose is to maintain the direct link between the professor staff, political organizations and the University Student Federation, in order to jointly support the proper preparation of students and their participation in activities within and outside the institution’s  formal educational system, as well as in community work in the areas of health as part of pre-professional training.
