Recognitions for outstanding centers and workers in the educational teaching process;meetings between literacy teachers and students from pedagogical schools;exhibitions of special interest clubs, and class festivals, stand out among the activities scheduled in Guantanamo for the day honoring educators, which exalts the work of those who dedicate themselves to the art of teaching.
Ada Luz Benítez Mallet, secretary of the Education, Science and Sports Workers Union in the province, said that during the tribute five professionals with 20 and 25 years of outstanding work in the sector will receive the Rafael María de Mendive medal, while student coaches who win international competitions will be also recognized.
In the more than 800 educational institutions, cultural activities, sports events, special morning meetings and community encouragement are scheduled for teachers and professors who dignify the work of teaching.
The day also includes a meeting with teachers who work in rural and hard-to-reach areas, at the José Lorenzo Cabrera primary school, in the municipality of Manuel Tames, while the provincial event for Educators is organized for next December 21, at the Guaso Theater, in the city of Guantanamo.
In Cuba, such a celebration is held every December 22, in memory of the year 1961 when the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, announced the culmination of the Literacy Campaign, and proclaimed the nation Free of Illiteracy.
