Escaramujo Contest in Guantanamo

The Escaramujo contest, announced by the José Martí Art Instructors Brigade to encourage creation from artistic amateur movement, is carried out in Guananamo through a long day of virtual presentations, in which artistic units from the 10 municipalities of the territory participate.

According to the organizers of the event, on this occasion around 49 talented artists were presented, of which 10 were selected for the provincial event. In this edition of the contest there is an active participation of the communities that belong to the Program for the Integral Development of Mountainous Regions, better known as Plan Turquino.

Music is the most representative art expressions, given the tradition that the province has in this art, above all, the variety of autochthonous rhythms that exist in municipalities such as Baracoa, Maisí, Imías and Yateras that are also represented in the literary workshops with children and adult writers.

In the section on socio-cultural projects, various proposals were presented with laudable results, including Katalejo project of Manuel Tames, led by the art instructor Yohandry Deroncelé, who recently won the award as the most outstanding artistic personality of the year, granted by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in the province.

Escaramujo Constest allowed visualizing interesting initiatives that are being developed from the more than 60 neighborhoods in Guantanamo Province, after concluding its competition at the provincial level, the winners are selected to represent our territory nationwide.
