Guantanamo.- As in the rest of the country, the 2026-2027 academic year will begin on September 1st for all programs and training courses offered at the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo (UCMGT).

Yamile Rodríguez Sotomayor, Rector of the University, specified that the academic year will be decentralized, with the exception of the Dentistry program. The remaining specialties will hold classes at the Faculty’s main campus and the Baracoa branch campus for certain years.

First-year students in all programs must report to the main campus of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Baracoa branch at the start of the semester. Students from municipalities requiring scholarships will be able to move into student residences starting August 28th.

The intensive period will last approximately eight weeks, the Rector of the higher education institution stated.

In the case of the Medicine program, third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-year students will report to the main campuses. Students in their final year of all programs will do the same.

Students in the remaining years of all programs will be assigned to different campuses at the beginning of the semester until they are notified of their respective intensive periods, with the exception of first-year students.

Students residing outside the provincial capital who are enrolled at the UCMGT may move into the student boarding house starting August 28th and will begin classes on September 1st.

Technical and vocational education will remain fully decentralized, as it was during the second semester of the previous academic year.
