More than 25,400 children in Guantanamo will be immunized against polio as part of the 63rd Oral Vaccination Campaign carried out throughout the country for the prevention of this infectious disease, which mainly affects the pediatric population.

María Elena Sánchez García, in charge of the Vaccination Program in the province, said that from April 22 to 26, 18,015 children will be inoculated, from one month old to two years, 11 months and 29 days.

In the second stage, scheduled between June 17 and 21, these kids will receive the second dose of the anti-polio vaccine and protection will be reactivated for some 7,431 nine-year-old children.

Those not able to get the vaccine on the scheduled days will do it in the following week, in the medical and vaccination offices of the 22 health areas of the province assigned for that task, which have the immunogen to achieve, as in previous years, the success of this campaign.

Anti-polio is not applied to children who have diarrhea, vomiting and fever;likewise, minors who suffer from a chronic illness must be compensated previously.

In line with the Vaccination Week of the Americas and under the motto “Vaccines for a full life”, the anti-polio Campaign in Guantanamo will have the support of the entire Health system and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), to achieve indicatorsof coverage equal to or over 95 percent, as every year.
