The eastern territory celebrates World Blood Donor Day from June 6 to 14, with recognition of those altruistic people who voluntarily contribute to assistance in hospitals and the preparation of blood products in the pharmaceutical industry.

The province has some 5,000 donors who respond to the calls of the Provincial Blood Bank in the time of any state of national emergency such as accidents, donors who spontaneously come to save lives in Guantanamo and other territories.

Dr. Mirta Rosales Chi, director of the Provincial Blood Bank, explained that in the period from January to May of this year the territory delivered 4,552 collections of a plan of 5,000, due to the low availability of the bags to collect blood that did not arrive in the country at the established time.

However, she emphasized that they have maintained in the province the contribution to health institutions for transfusions to patients, as well as plasma for the production of vaccines and other products, thanks to the unconditionality of donors and the efforts to guarantee that vital resource.
