Guantanamo. Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Guantánamo Province, recognized the positive work being carried out by the municipality of El Salvador through various agricultural programs, particularly those focused on crop production.

The provincial Party leader specifically praised farmer Jorge Fernández’s 40 hectares of cassava, describing the fields as an encouraging and beautiful sight amid the current economic difficulties and shortages.

Fernández also has 30 hectares of beans currently under cultivation and will soon begin planting an additional 60 hectares of soybeans, primarily intended for yogurt production.

Accompanied by provincial Vice-Governor Carlos Martínez Turro, municipal Party and government officials, and Alvenis Veranes, the territory’s agricultural delegate, Pérez García visited the farm operated by usufructuary Yunier Pereira. During the visit, Pereira officially began planting soybeans for the winter crop cycle in El Salvador, the municipality most committed to this program in the province.

The tour also included a visit to the Palizada Wet Processing Center, which works with 64 affiliated producers. Since the start of the current coffee harvest, the facility has processed slightly more than 590 cans of coffee out of a planned total of 1,183.

The delegation also inspected fields planted with peanuts, corn, cassava, sweet potatoes, and other crops at the Chapala production hub. There, Pérez García praised the municipality’s efforts to increase food production and urged authorities and producers not to be satisfied with their current achievements, but instead to set more ambitious goals.

He emphasized that achieving these objectives requires bringing the many idle, overgrown plots of land back into production, including the area adjacent to the Chafarina community.
