The Cuban easternmost province is getting ready for the Meteoro exercise May 20 and 21 aimed at “Strengthening of the province’s preparation and response capacities to face disaster risks in the event of tropical storms and other natural, technological and sanitary phenomena.
In Guantanamo, the first day of the drill the management and command bodies will have assess on predictions about the upcoming hurricane season-from June 1 to November 30- as well as other extreme hydrometeorological phenomena: severe local storms, tornadoes , heavy rains, strong winds and flash floods.
During the second day, workers, students and the people in general will participate in drilling exercises aimed at reducing risks and vulnerabilities in communities, economic and social entities; also in environmental sanitation, contributing to the solution of the problems that affect our population.
The Meteor will close at the CUPET Territorial Directorate of Fuel Marketing with a large-scale firefighting drill in the battery of fuel tanks as a result of an electric shock, and assistance to those affected will be outlined.
Previously, the Disaster Risk Reduction Week will take place in Guantanamo -from May 15 to 19- with the objective of developing practical actions that make it possible to reduce the impact of the perceived dangers.
The brigades of Cuba’s Electrical Union (UNE) and communication sector will have a special participation in tree pruning, the Community Services in environmental sanitation, and Public Health in vector control actions.][/bg_collapse]
