Guantanamo canoeists Yarisleidis Cirilo, winner of the gold and bronze medals in the 200-meter single-seater (C-1) and 500-meter C-2, in that order, and José Ramón Pelier, silver medalist in the C-1 at 5,000 meters, lead the group of seven Cuban canoeists who arrive in Colombia where they will complete a training base for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.

The Cuban News Agency reports that the canoeists Serguei Torres, Tabiani Diéguez and Mailienys Ávila, and kayakers Yurieni Herrera and Robert Benítez, who participated in the World Cup in Szeged, Hungary, complete the team.

Cirilo also competed in Szeged with her new partner in the two-seater (C-2) at 500 meters, Pelier, in the C-1 at 1000 meters, Torres, in the C-1 at 5000 meters and the C-2 at 500 meters, together with his new partner, Diéguez, and Guerra and Benítez, both in the single-seater kayak (K-1) at one thousand meters and five thousand meters.

In Colombia there are already kayakers Daylen Rodríguez, Yan Carlo Same, Reyler David Patterson, Julio César Suárez, Darovy Acevedo, Camila Cuello, Yanisleidi Romero and Omar Díaz.

They also intend to achieve be in good physical condition for the Salvadoran multi-sport event, scheduled from June 23 to July 8.

Alejandro Hanze, president and national canoe and kayak commissioner, told the Cuban News Agency that they also plans to compete with its main figures in the World Championship in Duisburg, Germany, from August 8 to 27, with a training program before in Poland.

Regarding the German World Championship,  he explained that they aspire to qualify for Paris 2024 (July 26-August 11), and added that they also plan to attend the Youth World Championships in Auronzo, Italy (July 24-30).
