Brigades of the Braulio Coroneaux Contingent of the Integral Construction Enterprise (Guanco), in Guantanamo advance in the construction of a pedestrian level crossing v over the Guaso River to connect the historic center of the provincial capital with the Sports City, located in the San Justo Neighborhood , in which about 20 thousand people live.

The engineer Damián Alfonso Muñoz, deputy director of Guanco, informed that this work of high economic and social impact is an extension of Bernabé Varona Street, and at the moment they are working on the earth moving on the east and west banks of the emblematic river.

After finishing the earthwork they workers will lay on piles and precast double cement slabs, which will cover about 80 meters long by three meters wide, and on the second a reinforced concrete stairway will be built with three steps and two rests.

The project includes a ramp for people with disabilities and a temporary fence to prevent accidents on the way, which will favor the movement of pedestrians to both sides of the city, save time and resources to alleviate the shortage of state and private transportation due to limitations in the availability of fuel.

Alfonso Muñoz stressed that the construction of the pedestrian crossing is an initiative of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, the Group for the Integral Development of the City (GDIC), with the participation of other entities in charge of materializing an old dream of the Guantanamo people.

The architect Zulma Ojeda Suárez, director of the GDIC, specified that the action is part of the Origin Project, conceived on the occasion of commemorating the 145th anniversary of the granting of the title of Villa to the sixth most populous city in Cuba and aimed at the rescue of buildings and spaces, together with its original functions, in the place where the original city, called Saltadero, was founded.
