Meteorology professionals in Guantanamo stand out for their sustained work in activities linked to scientific research, state scientific-technical services and permanent surveillance of the occurrence of weather phenomena.

In this sense, the recognition granted by the Agrometeorology National Center to these specialists in the territory stands out, after a comprehensive evaluation that assessed the tasks fulfilled, such as the bulletins issued, whose information allows producers and local governments to adopt appropriate measures in the face of drought, mainly.

The Provincial Weather Center also stands out for the results of studies such as the spatial and temporal behavior of severe local storms and electrical discharges, from whose analysis the mortality caused by flares was updated, with Guantanamo being one of the most affected territories in the country.

As part of the permanent work of the meteorological stations, participation in the State Plan to Deal with Climate Change (Tarea Vida) is maintained by monitoring drought, forest fires and intense rains and working together with the Provincial Defense Council.
