Guantanamo.- An introductory course for incoming students will be held from September 1 to 5 at the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo and its branch campus in the municipality of Baracoa.
The course aims to familiarize students with key academic and educational processes, conduct initial assessments, and develop the educational project of the University Student Federation (FEU) brigades.
Odalis Marrero Columbié, Director of Educational Work and University Extension, reported that the program includes presentations of the members of the University’s Governing Council and the professors who will guide the brigades.
Students will also elect a representative for each brigade and tour the student residence facilities, the Children’s Center, the FEU History Room, and the Provincial Medical Sciences Information Center.
The curriculum will also be presented, along with discussions on the values students are expected to develop. Student assemblies will be held on university premises to explain the regulations governing the Carlos J. Finlay Detachment and its missions for first-year students in each degree program.
The program will also address the Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy Movement; the Frank País García Student Assistant Movement; the FEU Sports and Amateur Artists Movement; scientific activities; award and proficiency examinations; knowledge competitions; and the requirements for obtaining the Gold Title.
New students will also attend a presentation of the book *Fidel Against Drugs*, delivered by Dr. Anselma Betancourt Pulsan, a Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba and a tenured professor at the University.
In addition, they will learn about the work of Honorary and Multidisciplinary Chairs, the integration process, and the procedures for requesting a change of major, applying for student stipends, and completing the hiring process.
The introductory course will conclude on Saturday, September 5, at 11 a.m. in the theater of the Doctor Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital. The University’s Rector, Doctor of Health Sciences Yamilé Rodríguez Sotomayor, will deliver the keynote lecture, **“Carlos J. Finlay and His Legacy in Cuban Public Health.”**
