Guantanamo.- The exhibition *Limbo* by Santiago de Cuba-born visual artist Alejandro Lescay Hierrezuelo opened at La Celosía Gallery, part of the Guantánamo provincial branch of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). The event also marked the gallery’s reopening and formed part of the province’s commemoration of the 65th anniversary of UNEAC’s founding.
During the opening ceremony, Alejandro Lescay Hierrezuelo was honored by the institution and presented with a recognition by its president, Ury Rodríguez Urgellés. Also attending the inauguration were Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guantánamo; Yoelvys Labañino López, head of the provincial Culture sector; and members of the organization from across the province.
The exhibition *Limbo* comprises 13 works in small, medium, and large formats, created using the scratchboard technique. It includes crayon drawings and acrylic paintings on canvas that explore existential dilemmas such as abandonment, loneliness, and the search for identity. This is the fourth time the exhibition has been presented, following previous showings in Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguín.
The exhibition is the result of institutional collaboration between the Guantánamo Provincial Committee of UNEAC and the provincial Directorate of Culture, in cooperation with the Caguayo Foundation of Santiago de Cuba.
The commemorative event marking the 65th anniversary of UNEAC’s founding in Cuba concluded with a performance by the group Robertico y su Síncopa Uno, whose distinctive traditional changüí rhythms enlivened the celebration in the courtyard of the cultural institution.
