Five professionals from the press in the Guantanamo Province received this Saturday the 60th Anniversary Medal of the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC), in a ceremony held in the José Martí Park of this city, on the occasion of commemorating the six decades of professional organization founded.

In the ceremony were awarded the outstanding reporter Martha Reyes Noa, from the Provincial Radio Station CMKS; the retirees of the Cuban News Agency (ACN) Leonel Eduardo Pérez Moya; Pedro Roberto Torres Aranda, from Radio Bahía, in Caimanera; as well as the photojournalist Reunel Ricardo Gómez Ramírez and the designer José Antonio Ocaña Suárez, both from the weekly Venceremos Newspaper.

The Provincial Directorate of Culture, the Union of the sector and the Provincial Government of People’s Power in Guantanamo awarded diplomas of recognition to Taimí Fernández Pérez, president of the UPEC, who ratified the commitment of the membership to carry out a journalism commited with truth, liberty and ethics.

She said that UPEC will continue to work for a press in accordance with the society we want to have and a better Cuba in scenarios of complex ideological and media battles.

The moment was opportune for the delivery of the awards of the Marcos Antonio Charón 2023 provincial contest, convened by the territorial delegation of UPEC, which awarded 16 Awards, a special award and a Mention in the categories of written press, radio, television, hypermedia and graphic journalism.

She asserted that UPEC will continue to work for a press in accordance with the society we want to have and a better Cuba in scenarios of complex ideological and media battles.
