Guantánamo. – The Minister of Education, PhD. Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto, sent a message of recognition to the province of Guantánamo for its effort in recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa to the territory’s educational infrastructure.
The minister Trujillo Barreto spoke through a cell phone conversation with Yoel Pérez García, the top political leader in this eastern region, during the reopening ceremony of primary schools in mountainous areas of the municipality of Manuel Tames. This event marks the completion of repairs to schools damaged by the hurricane.
At the Gelasio Calaña de La Hera and Alfredo López Pérez primary schools, located in the La Tagua and Santa Catalina settlements respectively, students, parents, teachers, and residents of these remote areas expressed their gratitude for the improved facilities and enhanced appearance of the schools, which will contribute to the successful development of the teaching and learning process.

Carmelaianne Heredia Chacón, the zonal director for this mountainous region of Tames, joyfully celebrated the completion of the project, which reinforces the principle that schools are the most important cultural center in the community.
Raquel Laviste Villafruela, the provincial director of education for Guantánamo province, emphasized that, amidst the country’s economic downturn, repairing 272 schools is a remarkable feat. This achievement reaffirms education as one of the cornerstones of the Revolution, without which it would not have been possible to guarantee this vital service, which also ensures quality of life, in these hard-to-reach areas.
