Guantanamo.- As part of efforts to improve energy efficiency and service delivery, the municipality of Niceto Pérez, in Guantánamo Province, has installed a dozen solar panels at health, education, and other public-service facilities, benefiting more than 16,000 residents.
The Maternity Home, the Day Care Center for the Elderly, and the Gilberto Isalgue González University Polyclinic are among the health institutions now using renewable energy. Other beneficiaries include the ETECSA telecommunications office, the Credit and Services Bank, the Physical Planning Office, the Funeral oHme, and the municipal Party headquarters.
According to specialists from the Basic Electric Organization (OBE), in Niceto Pérez, the education sector has also incorporated this alternative electrification system at the Rayitos de Sol Day Care Center and the Alcibíades Torres Special School.
Plans are underway to install additional solar panels at the Severo García Primary School and the Casimba de Filipinas Consolidated Mixed Center, both located in the municipality’s mountainous area.
The initiative provides greater energy independence from the National Electric Power System while helping ensure the continuity of essential services. It also represents a strategic response to the country’s energy challenges and promotes the efficient use of renewable sources for the well-being of the population.
