Guantanamo.- The University of Guantánamo, an institution committed to the socioeconomic development of the Cuban easternmost province, formalized sponsorship agreements with companies in the non-state sector of the territory.

The agreement is part of the preparations for the 1st International Scientific Convention UG 2026, which seeks to consolidate the relationship between academia and the private sector of the province, with a strong focus on strengthening technological innovation and sustainable development.

The micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) RICOR S.U.R.L., Tecaribe S.R.L. (Tecnología Caribe), and Tenilib S.U.R.L. are the entities joining this initiative. The alliance goes beyond financial support for the event; it represents a long-term commitment to fostering joint research, promoting the professional development of employees, and boosting the use of renewable energy in the region.

In statements to the press, Jorge Enrique Figuera Benítez, partner at the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) Tecaribe, emphasized the importance of this partnership, which aims to strengthen applied research and innovation.

“We want Tecaribe to function as an extension classroom, a work unit, and later, as a teaching community.”

The businessman explained that Industrial Engineering students are currently writing theses related to the company’s work, and the goal is to expand the collaboration to include Computer Science, Electronics, and Electrical Engineering programs, even with support from the University of Oriente, in Santiago de Cuba.

This connection with academia would allow students to participate in applied research projects, internships, and training programs directly related to the region’s technological needs.

Figuera Benítez also emphasized the benefits of a close relationship with professors from the University of Guantánamo (UG) for formalizing research projects and enriching work methodologies.

In this regard, Tecaribe has begun offering refresher courses in renewable energy in conjunction with the UG, with the goal of keeping its employees up-to-date on the technologies available and ensuring continuous learning.

The alliance also includes collaboration with medical research and logistics centers, opening new possibilities for developing projects in the fields of health and biomedical technology.
