An investment of one hundred thousand pesos in Cuban pesos was executed in Guantanamo to restore the Changüí House "Chito Lamblet Veranes", a site that will welcome personalities, musical groups and traditional families invited to the ninth Changüí Elio Revé Matos Festival to take place from June 23 to 27.

Some 300 Guantanamo people received the Forjadores del Futuro Medal in the last five years for contributing with their work and research to the economic and social development of the province.

The honorary condition, granted by the Youth Technical Brigades (BTJ, in Spanish), recognizes the contribution of talented young people from different sectors of society, as well as outstanding entities such as the University of Guantanamo and the Mountain Development Center in this eastern territory.

School Games for the athletes of the Rafael Freyre Sports Initiation School in Guantanamo every day is a challenge, even more so when the National School Games are being held from June 16 to July 20.

On this occasion, the Guantanamo delegation is composed of 311 athletes in the children category and 140 in the youth category, whose purpose is to improve the eleventh position obtained in the previous edition. In several provinces of the country, young competitors will measure their strengths and abilities in 22 of the 32 sports events.

More than 60 short summer courses will be taught in the 85 Guantanamo schools that will open their doors during the summer stage aimed at children and young people to love reading, develop the skills for interaction with new technologies and the appreciation of the arts.

Nearly 95 percent of the soils with low fertility and more than 26,000 hectares of cultivable land in Guantanamo affected by salinity, this province undertakes actions aimed at mitigating the effects of desertification and drought that threatens the territory, other parts of the country and the Caribbean region.
