Dedicated to the North American dancer and teacher Elfriede Mahler, as well as to the 15 years of career of the general director Elio Orestes Reina Figueredo, the 33rd edition of the season of the Danza Libre Company concluded in the Guantanamo City, with a show at the Teatro Guaso of this eastern city.

With a varied programme of premiers , the Guantanamo public appreciated, on the weekends of the current month, choreographies performed by young talented dancers such as “Resiliencia”, re-released at the beginning of the year, and the new “Obbá Arará”, contemporary and folkloric style pieces, respectively.

According to the report by Milena Cintra Alexander, a journalism student, on the closing day the spectators appreciated the premiere of the musical piece “Padre Nuesro” (Our Father) and “Babalu Ayé”, by the singing and percussion orchestra with its own arrangements.

As another attraction of the night was also the online presentation from Colombia of the choreographer Wilfran Barrios, author of the tribute work “Juaniquita va a llover” (Juaniquita is going to rain), a graduation exercise for dancers from the “Alfredo Velázquez Carcassés” Professional School of Dance, who performed during the academic year his pre-professional training in this prestigious Guantanamo company.

For their part, the musicians from the singing and percussion orchestra of the company Katerine Pérez, Reinier Paniagua Frómeta and Suanet del Rosario Ramos Bouly celebrated their five years of artistic career, respectively.

The Danza Libre Company reached its 33rd anniversary with a renewed troupe, willing to defend the legacy of the founding teachers, Alfredo Velázquez, Yaneisi Chibás and Elfriede Mahler, coinciding with the death of this outstanding North American dancer, who dedicated most of her life to the Guantanamo culture.
