The Guantanamo athlete Yariulvis Cobas is among the group of 15 Cuban rowers (5M-10H) who is taking part in the qualifying tournament for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.

The competition will take place from April 14 to 19 at the Laguna Grande aquatic track. The finals are scheduled from 17 to 19.

“We will compete to classify in all the categories, although several will have to double, which implies a greater effort,” Ángel Luis García, president of the Cuban federation of this sport, told JIT.

The rowers chosen began their preparation this year in the water track of the Hanabanilla dam, located in the center of the Island. Later they continued in the La Coronela reservoir, near the José Smith Comas National Rowing and Canoeing School, in Caimito.

“The boys are excited and will row on the same track that will host the Santiago 2023 party at the end of the year,” he said.

Olympian Milena Venegas, Yariulvis Cobas, Carlos Andriel Ajete and Reidy Cardona lead the team that will compete on April 15 with regattas from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 11.50 a.m.

According to the organizers, the waters of Sampedrina will receive more than 15 delegations that will look for available places in six events: scull (1x), double scull (2x), four sculls (4x), two without a coxswain (2-), four without a coxswain ( 4-) and light double sculls (L2x) in men and women.

In the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile there will also be the eight with mixed coxswain (8+) that will make up rowers classified in the aforementioned tests. Only this contest will give quotas for the main multi-sport commitment this year in the American continent.][/bg_collapse]
